Summer Reading Entry Four

I chose this book because my brother and mom have both read the book and said it was a great book so I decided to read because it was familiar and because I was recommended it. While reading this book I noticed that it seemed somewhat similar to the book Outsiders because it seemed like the same kind of environment and also the characters seem similar. If I were to recomend this book to someone it would be my grandmother because she likes to read mystery books and she was alive near the time period of the book so I think she could relate to it more than I could.

Summer Reading Entry Three

An interesting part in the book Monster is occasions that the author gives possible explanations of the crime. I find these parts interesting because they firstly give me ideas on what might have happened and also allow me to compare my ideas to the authors writings. Others might like these parts as well due to the fact that it kind of gives a break from the court setting and helps to create an image and understanding of the crime. Finally I think someone who enjoys books about mysterys as I believe that this book seems to have a little bit of mystery to it in the fact that it is following a court case.

Summer Reading Entry Two

One thing about Monster that really sets it apart from other books is the way it is written. The book seems as if its a screenplay with Steve's journal or thoughts between the different scenes this I think makes this book unique which I like. As I read this book i do think it is a lot like other books and movies that have a court theme like Monster. In the book obviously all the criminals main intentions are to try to lower their sentences and if at all possible stay out of prison but what I think is more interesting is the intentions of the other major characters like Steve's attorney who in my opinion genuinely wants to help Steve get out of the mess he's in by showing how different his character traits are as compared to the other three criminals but then it would appear that the assistant district attorney wants to see the lot of them rot in prison seeing as how she calls them monsters.

Summer Reading Entry One

For my summer reading project I have chosen the book Monster by Warren Dean Myers. The book takes place in New York City where a group of criminals has been caught robbing a drugstore as well as killing a man the book then describes their court hearing. Major characters in the book include Steve Harmon a sixteen year-old African American boy who was acting as a lookout during the robbery, Kathy O'Brien who is Steve's attorney, Sandra Petrocelli the Assistant District Attorney, James King who took part in the robbery, Richard Evans the third man accused of being a part of the robbery, and Osvaldo Cruz who is the final man who took part in the crime. Personally I think this story will probably be a lot like most other books or movies involving court cases or really crime in general although seeing as how this book did win a prestigious award maybe this will be different.

The voic in this column is great because it's a situation that people our age might be able to relate to because this is a student like us so we can better imagine what this would be like. It also tells the story well and makes us feel like we know them

After the white house was attacked the president though he didn't want to was taken away by the secret service an taken to a safe house where something bad happened but I won't say as to preserve the shock of it. After the presidents absence the Vice President took over and we found out his secret evil intentions to help Iran, meanwhile the cheif of staff is pretending to be on his side to gain information and get help.

After his ordeal in his hometown Max and his lieutenant Elizebeth began heading into the middle of the country and during their travels they found a hospital whose supplies and staff had been kidnaped so they agree to help then for supplies.

Back in California Richard and his cellmate Tank have escaped the doomed prison and began trying to find civilization however Tanks eye which had a strange injury had become infected which was slowly killing forcing Richard to get rid of the infection and cartirize his wound which was his eye

Collapse pt 4

After stepping up Max (the cheif of police) decides to set up base in the highschool gym in his town when the huge hurricane hits. While he is hiding out in the highschool Max continues to show leadership while attending to injured people who are stupid and didnt evacuate and with the help of the luitenant,Elizebeth, helps comfort people. After the hurricane Max and Elizabeth along with the remaining police head to the station to retrieve guns and find the station was destroyed and that the gun locker was raided.

Meanwhile Howard is staying in his huge fortress, the Beck Castle, where he has enough space to house hundreds of people along with the supplies for each of those people to live quite comfortably. This is because Beck Castle is hidden inside a hollowed mountain, like literally a mountain. Beck castle also houses nine hundred zettabyte hard drives ment to keep all the inmformation about the world...ever. Though Beck castle could be a safehouse for hundreds Howard continues to show his aspergers by not allowing any human to step foot near the fortress. 

Blog reflection Tri 2

I chose this blog I use words like,"dire situation" that are very descriptive or generally uncommon. In this blog and my others this Tri I have introduced a new chracter and then given some backround then shown how the act or change in what I have read so far and I think this shows that I can be very informative in my posts but I also like to comment on what i think of the character.


 In this post and many others I tend to use elevated diction such as,"massive huricane" or ,"very passionate" Using words like the previous examples, I think, help people to understand what I am describing or talking about. I also tend to use longer sentences that are seperated by commas because people tend to not stop reading something in the middle of a sentence so if I have longer sentences they will hopefully read more of the most and be more entertianed.

The next main character in collapse is billionaire Howard Beck, who even throught the economic hardships the book describes, still remains the richest man in the world. Although he is a super genius of einstien proportions he does have one flaw which is aspergers. This is very clearly shown in the first few pages of his portion of the story as his best friend is a computer he created. Though his aspergers limits how much emotion he feels or shows we do see some emotion when he mourns his late wife. Howard's great fortune has mostly come from his technology business known as Beck enterprises which is a global company that would equal companies such as google in the real world. Howard also design a computer so advanced that it has been qualified as artificial intelligence essentially meaning it can think and make decisions on its own.

 After being introduced to all of the characters the story rotates between it's many perspectives and shows how the characters grow as well as how they tie into each otherwe also see how the world the story has created changes first we see riots begin to happen in cities like Denver and in response there are more and more restrictions and even more deaths due to ambulances not being able to get to hospital fast enough also the empire of Iran also begins to grow and also improve their defenses and begin to attack the us and other countries.

The next character we see in Collapse is Richard Dupree who is an inmate at a prison rivaling the security of Alcatraz. When we first see him he is part of a white supremacy gang but we very quickly find that he has little choice to leave the gang and is completely disgusted by the thought of it.Later in the book we learn Richards backstory, ever since he was a boy he had adored the Navy Seals and had dreamed of becoming one. In his senior year of high school Richard learned that his long time  girlfriend,(who was also African American) was pregnant. They had spoken of marriage but Richard decided that instead he would break up with her to pursue his Navy career. After being deployed Richard changed his mind and married  his high school girlfriend. Several years later Richard became suspicious that his wife was not being faithful to him while he was away when he returned home his suspicions were confirmed and he planned to kill his wife's secret lover. His plans were ended when he caught a pedophile abusing his children and brutally murdered him. The murder he committed showed a HUGE change in him, from a prestigious military officer to a homicidal criminal.


The next important character in the story is the 43rd  president Malcolm Powers. At his 7th year in office Malcolm is facing a major decision that could decide the fate of America or even the world. He has 2 and only 2 foreseeable options and those are to continue the war efforts in what us becoming the 3rd world war and let the citizens who suffered a catastrophic hurricane die, or he can send an aircraft carrier from the Port of Gibraltar  and let the empire of Iran invade Europe where they will surely take over. To help him make this decision the president has called the heads of a few departments. In the middle of this fateful meeting explosions begin to go off outside the White House and the president is carried away by the secret service.

Collapse pt 1

The book Collapse starts somewhere around the year 2027 during which america is in a war with the middle east along with Europe and the american people are facing a second great depression along with undetectable terrorists. The story follows the veiwpoints and lives of several people including a billionaire named Howard Beck, the chief of police in a small town in Texas, a group of hurricane survivors in florida, a prison inmate, and the President and through them and a few others  we see the dire situation the author has set for america just just 13 years from now.

 In the first few chapters of the book we see the characters and how they are living, we also learn of a few characters pasts. The first character we see really change at all is the cheif of police in Texas, Max.In the very begining of the book Max is grumpy, lazy, and addicted to painkillers for his mysterious injury in his leg. When Max hears of a massive catagory 5 hurricane much like the one that, in the story, destroyed Florida he suddenly becomes very passionate about his job and for the first time in years takes chargeto evacuate his small town.

Fahrenheit 451 characters

Clarisse is 17 years old and crazy as descirbed by herself. In my opinion she is extremely curious almost to a dangerous level because it causes her to explore the future world she lives in I also think she is a little fearless or careless because shes not afraid to find the truth either that or she doesnt care what will happen so she finds what she wants to know.

  A good quote she says is, "So many people are. Afraid of firemen, I mean. But you're just a man, after all..." this shows how clarisse is different and she knows it and by telling Montag this we know she isnt afraid to tell people she is different. She is also kind of careless. For example she was told that she is anti-social but doesnt seem to care at all.

This trimester most of my blog posts have been 2 paragraphs with a few exceptions. Of those posts I think this one is one of my best blogs because it is a pretty good length and shows some of the development of the book and the story. This post also shows how Tris has started to get over her fears with guns that started in the first book, so it kind of shows character development as well.

My goals for improvment on reading next Tri are I want to try to readmore often because this Tri i really didnt read as much as i had last Trimester. I also want to try to understand the characters in the books more. My goals for writing next Tri are to actually write and if/when i do write i want what i write to be longer and more detailed. I also want to work on making my writing more interesting instead of just writing boring stuff that nobody wants to read.

Alliegant pt 6

the book is getting towards the end and like most books do, its getting pretty intense. During tris's viewpoint her and tobias make up and get back together because she makes a few realizations that i want say because they might give stuff away but it definantly shows that she is maturing.

In the last part of the book we found out that David wanted Tris to be one of his advisors so during their fisrt meeting they learn that the alliegant, a resistance group in the city, is attacking different parts of the city so they make a decision the reset the memories of everyonr in the city, this motivates Tris Tobias and everyone in the resistance at the bureau to act soon and Tris creates a plan to steal the memory serum then reset the memories of the bureau so she talks to some scientists that are prt of the resistance and she talks to some other people and finalizes the plan.

this section is of the book is quite depressing because after joining the plot the overthrow the bureau he badly hurt his friend and Tris cant even look at him because of it so he pretty much just mopes around feeling nothing but regret and this is pretty much the most emotion I've seen of him in the entire series its kind of weird  but interesting. His bad mood ended though when someone tells him about a secret meeting led by Tris that they needed him at. when Tobias gets to the meeting he thinks about how Tris didn't trust the plotters that get him in trouble and begins to think of the many other times he thought he should do something but Tris thought differently and ended up being right and he finally after hurting some of his only remaining friends that he should listen and I think its about time because the whole time he's either been making the wrong decisions or being skeptical of Tris's thoughts which are usually right. I guess he still hasn't changed much though because when he confronted Tris and tried to talk to her he ended up getting angry at her and storming away again after his outburst the viewpoint switches to Tris

in this section of the book Tris had just agreed to become one of Davids advisors because even though she didnt join the uprising that she stopped she still didnt like the way the bureau ran so the best way to take over is to get high in there little gov. and then take over when they trust her. In order to become an advisor David tells tris she must go see some of the rest of the world because he requires his advisors to see it to better make decisions.

The next day Tris goes to the gaurds in charge of going out into the world and they give her a vest and because she is from an experiment and is dauntless they gave her a gun as well. On the expedition that tris joined they were going out to put up new equipment to monitor the people that lived outside the compound. When they arrive the first thing tris notices is that most of the people are children but before she can see anything else guns fire and she ducks into a lean-to when she peeks out she sees one of the outsiders pointing a gun at one of the people from the compound then to save him she points her gun at the outsider and notice that because it is lighter and feels different from the guns in the city she doesnt freeze up when she holds it like she used to. After the outsiders run everybody goes back and the viewpoint switches to Tobias.

Alleogance pt 3

After saving Davids life Tris finds out that Tobias did work with the plotters and was caught and arrested. She then goes to talk to him and tells him that she couldnt bear to look at him after what he did because it almost killed Uriah and put him in a coma. The story then switches to Tobias's perspective and its almost painful to hear how much he regrets what he did because he caused so much damage and put Uriah in a coma after telling his brother that he would protect Uriah.


After David is released from the infirmiry he calls Tris to see him and asks her to be one of his advisors. After agreeing he tells her that the next day she will go out and see what some of the rest of the world is like and she sees just how bad the rest of the world is.

Alleigant pt 2

In this next part of the book Tris and Tobias learn of plot to over throw the bureau created by some of the people living there because they think their system is corrupt. Thier plan is to create a diversion then steal the serum that allowas the bureau to continue their experiments which would shut them down. When looking at evidence that there is corruptness Tris sees that they are hiding something and tries to get Tobias to step away as well but he is pretty stuborn so he thinks the evidence is solid then they argue and Tris leaves him with the plotters.  Later Tris is walking towards one of her only remaining friends, Uriah, when the wall behind him explodes. he is severly injured but Tris cant help him because she knows that this is the attack that she backed out of and runs to the vault of the serums.

When Tris arrives at the vault there three peoplre in black holding the leader of the bureau, David, hostage to get the code for the vault. To save him she takes a gun from a dead guard and threatens to shoot David who is the only person the code. She then shoots them all, which surprises me because recently shes barely been avle to hold a gun let alone shoot people. Most of the people dont have fatal wounds and she manages to save David.

Deep Survival pt 3/Aleigant pt 1

a while ago i either finished or almost finished Deep survival but i do really remember much of it because it was a  kind of boring book and not as interesting as i thought it would be either way after i was done with Deep Survival i started the book Aleigant which is the third book in the Divergent series. the series is about a future world where society is split into five factions each with a different belief or goal they follow throughout life and at a certain age that i dont remember the people of this society take an aptitude test to see what faction they belong in based on what they do in certain simulated situations they can then choose to transfer factions or stay in there original faction. In this world there are also people who could belong in multiple fcations these people are called divergent.

 In the third book of the series Aleigant Tris, the main character, is somewhat recovering from a civil war against the Erudite faction that seeks knowledge above everything because the Erudite attacked another faction using a serum that controlled the Dauntless who focus on bravery and are soldiers. Now that Erudite have been defeated the factionless people who failed their faction intiation took over and are now in control Now another rebellion has started and Tris along with a team of choosen people have left the city in search of answers to some found information in the second book that i wont speak of because its a twist and i dont want to spiol it.

Deep Survival pt 2

This week in Deep Survival the narrator whose name hasn't yet been said is on an air craft carrier learning how it works. He is a pilot and is learning how to land and take off from the ship. during this he talks about two things, emotion in general and fear and how they affect how people act. When talking about emotion he talks about how a lot of times emotion can change they way you react to situations and how it can allow you to make mistakes or stupid decisions.

Whn the narrator talks about fear he talks about how fear is good, it keeps you on track and makes sure you know what hapens if you mess up. This can do one of two things, help you do the right thing or make you paralyzed which would either kill or injure you.
